James A. Kleist, SJ

Biography: James A. Kleist (1873-1949) entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 1892 and later taught at Jesuit schools in the United States. He worked with Joseph Lilly, CM, to produce a new English translation of the Bible, which was published posthumously in 1956. Kleist translated into English Adolf Kaegi's A Short Grammar of Classical Greek (B. Herder Book Co., 1926), which was reprinted as Kaegi's Greek Grammar (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1995); he also coauthored with Adolf Kaegi Greek Readings for Review (first published 1902; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2002).
