John C. Traupman
Biography:
John Traupman (1923–2019) was chair of the Department of Classics at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia from 1951 to 1989. Traupman received a BA from Moravian College and an MA and PhD from Princeton University. He was past president of the Philadelphia Classical Society, the Pennsylvania Classics Association, and the Classical Association of the Atlantic States. He served on the ACTFL Board of Reviewers for National Standards in Foreign Language. He also presented numerous papers at a variety of professional conferences in the classics field. Traupman authored Latin-English Dictionary (Bantam Books, 1966, and Amsco School Publications, 1966; revised and enlarged edition Amsco, 1994 and Bantam,1996), German-English Dictionary (Bantam Books, 1982 and Amsco, 1982), Latin is Fun, Book I (Amsco, 1988), Latin is Fun, Book II (Amsco, 1994), Scribner-English Dictionary (Scribner, 1977), German Fundamentals (Barron's Educational Series, Inc. 1992), and Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency, 4th Edition (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2007).
