Tom Garvey

Biography: Although primarily a Homerist by training, Tom Garvey's research into the ancient world is wide-ranging. In addition to maintaining abiding interests in Ovid, spoken Latin, and the philosophy of ancient vegetarianism (which brought him to Plutarch in the first place), he has published articles on religion in Plato's Atlantis myth, scholarly editions of fragmentary Greek papyri from Roman Egypt, and archaeological and architectural entries in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Greece and Rome. He has taught at the University of Virginia, Kenyon College, and Brooklyn College, CUNY."
