Paul Allen Miller, PhD

Biography: Paul Allen Miller is Carolina Distinguished Professor of Classics and Comparative Literatures at the University of South Carolina. Miller received a BA from Washington University at St. Louis and an MA and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. Known for his use of innovative and interdisciplinary methodologies in interpreting Latin poetry, he is author of several books, including A Tibullus Reader: Seven Selected Elegies (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2013), Lyric Texts and Lyric Consciousness: The Birth of a Genre from Archaic Greece to Augustan Rome (Routledge, 1994), Latin Erotic Elegy: An Anthology and Reader (Routledge, 2002), Subjecting Verses: Latin Love Elegy and the Emergence of the Real (Princeton University Press, 2004), and Latin Verse Satire: An Anthology and Reader (Routledge, 2005). He has published numerous articles and has edited or coedited thirteen volumes of essays on literary theory, gender studies, and topics in classics.
