Dirk Sacre, PhD
Biography:
Dirk Sacre is professor of Latin at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He received his PhD in philology from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Sacre is a member of the
Academia Latinitati Fovendae in Rome. He was a professor of Latin at the University of Antwerp from 1987 to 1998. His main interest is in Neo-Latin poetry. He has also published on Erasmus, Lipsius, and other humanities. Sacre wrote the foreword to
Smith's English-Latin Dictionary (American Book Company, 1871; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2000) and is coeditor with Marcel Smets of
Tonight They All Dance: 92 Latin and English Haiku (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1999).
