Anne H. Groton, PhD

Biography: Anne H. Groton has taught since 1981 at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where she is professor of classics and chairs the Department of Classics. Groton received her BA from Wellesley College and her PhD in classical studies at the University of Michigan. Every other year she directs a student production of a play by Plautus, performed in a musical mixture of Latin and English. In 1995 she received the American Philological Association's Award for Excellence in the Teaching of the Classics. Groton is the author of several articles on ancient comedies as well as From Alpha to Omega: A Beginning Course in Classical Greek (Focus, 1993, fourth edition 2013) and is the coauthor (with James M. May) of Thirty-Eight Latin Stories (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, fifth edition, 1995).
