Paul Roche

Biography: Paul Roche (1916-2007) was a British poet, classical scholar, translator, and professor of English. Roche received degrees in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He published two collections of poetry, as well as several translations of works by Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Sappho, and Plautus. Roche taught and worked at a number of American universities and colleges, including a position as poet-in-residence at the California Institute of the Arts in 1972. Roche authored Aeschylus: Prometheus Bound (Mentor Classics, 1964; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1990, 1998) and Three Plays by Plautus (Mentor Classics, 1968; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2005).
