Early American Latin Verse
By Leo M. Kaiser
During their first two centuries of colonial life, Americans produced a large and fascinating body of original Latin poetry. The poets included in this anthology are important in that they represent the continuity and vitality of the tradition of the study of Latin in the West as a major educational and cultural force. The book includes Latin text and notes.
This anthology makes available, for the first time, one representative body of American Literature, important historically and artistically.
Leo M. Kaiser, Sr. (1918 –2001) was a Professor of Classics at Loyola University of Chicago from 1954 to 1986. In addition to his work on Early American Latin Verse, he conducted a “Census of American Latin Verse.” Additionally, he translated and published over 300 Latin and Greek transcripts.
