ABOUT THE TRANSLATORS
Latin translator: Bystrik Muransky (1907-1972), Slovak Catholic priest of the Society of Don Bosco. His family name is Anton Macak. Among his many professional achievements as a priest, teacher, historian and folklorist, Muransky completed his Latin translation of about 170 Slovak hymns and folk songs in 1963 under the title Resonantia Tatrae. This work remained as a manuscript in the hands of his colleague and friend Reverend Milan S. Durica, SDB, who took it with him into self-exile to Italy during the Communist regime in Slovakia.
In 2002, Durica donated this Latin manuscript to Ladislaus J. Bolchazy, with the hope it would be published by his firm Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, Inc. Dr. Bolchazy immediately commissioned Dr. Emil Vontorčik to collect, edit, and digitize 170 corresponding Slovak lyrics; Mr. Viktor Štefanec to reproduce and typeset music scores; Dr. Dirk Sacré, of the University of Leuven, to edit the Latin version. Mgr. Ivan Reguli volunteered to oversee the project. After six years of work, the book containing these 170 Latin and Slovak versions with 46 English translations and 170 music scores was published in 2007.
The CD containing 27 Latin songs, performed and recorded by Schola Cantorum Ioannis Pauli II, of Vajnory, Slovakia, under the direction of Ondrej Demo, was published by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, Inc.
Conductor: Ondrej Demo has a significant place in Central Europe as a musicologist and organizer of musical performances. He is the Choirmaster of John Paul II Choir in Vajnory, Slovakia, and the developer of “The Folk Music Instruments Orchestra of the Slovak Republic.”
