Barbara Lawatsch-Boomgaarden, PhD Barbara Lawatsch-Boomgaarden has taught Latin, Byzantine history, German literature, and classic, biblical and modern literature at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Boomgaarden earned her doctorate in history and Latin with a secondary concentration in classical Greek and earned a diploma in American Studies as a Fulbright scholar. A native of Salzburg, Austria, Boomgaarden currently serves as an assistant to the Director of Austrian Studies at the University of Minnesota. Boomgaarden is editor with Josef IJsewijn of Voyage to Maryland: Relatio Itineris in Marilandiam (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1995).
